Members of the ESE are their employees as well as students of the University of Erfurt if they are enrolled in a course of study overseen by the institution.

For certain tasks, other members can be appointed by the directorate of the Erfurt School of Education. Those members are experts working in teams towards their respective goals within smaller timeframes. Such goals can be finding solutions for certain tasks in teacher education and the development of concepts for advanced scientific training. Members ex officio are the students currently studying in one of the master’s of education programmes, the director as well as his/her representative, the management, employees concerned with internships, research and advanced training and every member of the examination board of the masters' of education programmes.
