In view of the strengthening of authoritarian populist movements, an increasing loss of trust in democratic institutions and the growing polarisation of public discourse, the question of the resilience of democracy in Thuringia, Germany and globally is increasingly coming into focus.
In a panel discussion at the University of Erfurt, we are offering the opportunity to learn about different perspectives and ideas on how we can better organise and protect our democracy. We want to enter into dialogue with three personalities who have decisively shaped the discussion on resilient democracy in recent years. The panellists are: Katrin Göring-Eckardt, member of the German Bundestag for the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen party since 1998 - former vice president of the Bundestag and one of the best-known voices for democracy from Thuringia; Max Steinbeis, founder of the Verfassungsblog, initiator of its Thuringia project and author of the book "Die verwundbare Demokratie"; and Franziska Wittau, head of the State Centre for Political Education in Thuringia.
The evening will be hosted by: Professor Thorsten Thiel (Chair of Democracy Promotion and Digital Policy) and Dr Hannah Vermaßen (research associate at the Chair of Political Theory).
