Prof. Dr. André Brodocz

Short biography

André Brodocz graduated "with distinction" from the Philipps University of Marburg in 1996 with a diploma in political science, sociology and modern German literature. His diploma thesis on "Structural Coupling through Associations" appeared in abridged form in the journal "Social Systems". In 2001, he received his doctorate from the TU Dresden with "summa cum laude". His dissertation thesis on "The Symbolic Dimension of the Constitution", supervised by Hans Vorländer, was awarded by the Faculty of Philosophy of the TU Dresden as the best dissertation of 2001. There he habilitated in 2007 in the subject "Political Science" with his thesis on "The Power of the Judiciary". Since 2009, André Brodocz has been Professor of Political Theory at the University of Erfurt. From 2011 to 2015 and 2018 to 2021, he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences.

Teaching

André Brodocz teaches in the BA programs "Economics, Law and Social Sciences" and "International Relations. His regular courses include the lecture "Theory of Democracy" as well as seminars on "Power", "Representative Theories of Democracy", "Theories on the Dark Side of Modern Statehood" and "Global Justice". In the framework of the Studium fundamentale (Stufu) he also offers (more or less) regularly with Gerhard Wegner the interdisciplinary seminar "Capitalism and Democracy".
