Eduardo Ryo Tamaki

Short Biography

Eduardo Ryo Tamaki is a doctoral researcher at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and at the University of Erfurt, and one of the team leaders of Team Populism's Young Scholars Initiative on Populism (OPUS). He is also member of Team Populism's Textual Analysis team and researcher at the GIGA's DEMINGS project (Democratic Institutions in the Global South). He is currently working on his doctoral thesis on how different types of populism lead to the same outcome vis-à-vis liberal democracy. His research interests include populism (both supply – speeches and party manifestos – and demand – populist attitudes), democratic erosion, political behavior (electoral behavior), and political culture, with a focus on Latin America and Radical Right/Far-right leaders. His work has been published in journals such as Electoral Studies, Parteciopazione e Conflitto, Lua Nova, among others. More information: Eduardo Tamaki (giga-hamburg.de)
