Public university workshop with Clara von der Heydt (project manager #Kinderrechte digital leben! | Media Education Officer at Kinderschutzbund LV Thüringen e.V.).

Digital media are an integral part of young people's lives and fulfil a variety of functions, not just in the context of learning. Tablets, smartphones and the like are true all-rounders and offer hundreds of possibilities and opportunities. There are good reasons why children have a right to access digital media and to participate in the (digital) world. But at the same time, educators have a responsibility and know that It's not all rosy online, adolescents are exposed to risks that should not be sneezed at! This is unsettling and often causes stress.

From a children's rights perspective, children have the right to both participation and protection. So what can be done?

This workshop is about how to deal with media education challenges in a structured way. By placing the child at the centre and considering children's rights to protection, participation and support together, concrete options for action can be found that suit children and pedagogical work contexts and at the same time enable them to grow up safely with media.
