Review and Grade

Patience is required after the thesis has been handed in on time

According to the examination regulations, reviewers have a deadline of 8 weeks after receipt of the thesis to prepare their reviews. Please note that the deadline for the submission of the thesis is not the same as the deadline for the formal processing and distribution of the thesis.

If both reviews are available, you will usually receive a notification by mail within one working day after receipt of the last review that you can pick up your certificate of achievement in the ESE. A copy of the certificate of achievement will be sent to the Registrar's Office (Department 1).

If delays occur, it may be for the following reasons:

1. Missing reviews: If reviews are missing after the deadline, the ESE will send reminders independently. In this case, only your reviewers can inform you about the processing status of the reviews.
2. Requesting a third expert opinion: If the grades in the two expert opinions differ by more than one whole grade, ESE will request a third expert opinion. The review process may then be delayed by an additional 8 weeks in individual cases. However, you will be notified immediately when all three reviews are available.

Failure to pass: If a grade of 5.0 is given in at least one review, the paper is considered failed. In this case, we will contact you and explain the further procedure in a personal conversation. Failure to pass is often not accompanied by significant delays.
