Submission of application
Acceptance as doctoral candidate
For acceptance as a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Science, an application must be submitted via Docata - the web portal for doctoral candidates at the University of Erfurt. Docata provides a step-by-step help that guides you through the application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate.
You can submit the application after registering online in Docata. You will then receive your personal access data with which you can log in and process your application at any time.
To the web portal for doctoral students at the University of Erfurt
The following documents must be enclosed with the application to the doctoral commission:
(1) Documents in electronic form (Docata):
- Application for acceptance (system-generated) incl. declaration on the intended doctoral degree and according to § 5 para. 3 PrO
- Certificate of the degree relevant for admission
- Curriculum vitae
- Exposé (incl. time schedule of the dissertation project)
(2) Documents in paper form:
- signed application for acceptance (system-generated)
- certified copy of the degree relevant for admission
(3) Documents from the supervisor, either digitally with electronic signature or in original with manual signature:
- Compatibility requirement and prognosis requirement
- Supervision agreement (incl. supervisor declaration)
If the requirements according to § 5 Para. 2 + 3 Pr-O-StF are not met, additional documents must be submitted:
- Failure to meet the examination requirement (§ 5 Para. 2 (a) Pr-O-StF): expert opinion of an authorised examiner who is not identical with the authorised examiner according to § 5 Para. 2 Sentence 2.
- Failure to meet the quality requirement (section 5 (2) (b) Pr-O-StF): expert opinion of two authorised examiners, one of whom may be identical to the authorised examiner pursuant to section 5 (2) sentence 2 or section 5 (4) sentence 1 Pr-O-StF.
- Failure to meet the compatibility requirement (§ 5 Para. 2 (c) Pr-O-StF): expert opinion of an authorised examiner who is not identical with the authorised examiner pursuant to § 5 Para. 2 Sentence 2.
Only after acceptance as a doctoral candidate can you enrol via the Department 1: Registrar's Office.
Extension of the status as doctoral candidate
The doctoral commission decides on extensions of the doctoral status awarded for five years.
The justified application must be submitted via the application assistant integrated in Docata before the end of the award period. The doctoral candidate must obtain the supervisor's new prognosis, upload it there or submit it by email.
Opening of the examination procedure
To complete your doctoral project, you must apply for the opening of the examination procedure. The application must be submitted via Docata - the web portal for doctoral students at the University of Erfurt. Docata provides a step-by-step help to guide you through the application to open the examination procedure.
To the web portal for doctoral candidates at the University of Erfurt
According to the latest doctoral regulations, you must have the following documents ready, which you must submit electronically (via Docata) or by post:
1. documents in electronic form (Docata):
- Identical electronic version of the dissertation (PDF)
- Written declarations in accordance with Appendices 6 ff. Pr-O-StF
- Updated curriculum vitae
- Police clearance certificate
- Copy of the letter of acceptance
- If applicable, proof of fulfilment of any requirements
- Certificate of payment of the doctoral fee in accordance with the General Fee Regulations of the University of Erfurt; please enquire about the bank details in advance at the Dean's Office.
2. documents in paper form:
- Signed (system-generated) application to initiate the examination procedure
- Signed declarations in accordance with Annexes 6 ff. Pr-O-StF
- Police clearance certificate
- If applicable, evidence of fulfilment of any requirements
- Six bound copies of the dissertation
If you are applying for admission according to an older version of the doctoral regulations, please refer to the doctoral regulations to find out which documents must be submitted.
The dissertation must be published within one year after passing the disputation.
