This volume is the result of the second phase (2020–2023) of the research project “Science and Orthodoxy around the World” (SOW), which – following the successful first phase (2016–2019) – continued to map the broad field of relations and dialogue between Orthodox Christianity and science. The primary focus of the specific research group within the SOW project that we co-chaired aimed at producing in-depth analyses based on recent developments in Orthodox theology, philosophy, and science. The goal was to create a tether between these two overarching poles of Orthodoxy and science that have for so long erroneously been regarded as antithetical and disparate. The final output, the present collective volume, deals with selected issues from the above areas and is representative of the broad scope and richness of the theological and philosophical perspectives and debates on this topic in circulation today. It is testament to the new and productive interactions that can occur between Orthodox theological thinking and contemporary developments in philosophy and science. On the one hand, this volume demonstrates how, against the backdrop of this interlinkage, Orthodox Christianity is able to reflect critically on its own tradition by espousing novel philosophical and scientific models, ideas, and conceptual frameworks. On the other hand, this line of enquiry has the potential to enrich current philosophical and scientific reflection by offering new perspectives drawn from the Orthodox tradition that can be redefined in the context of contemporary scientific research and philosophical analysis. Overall, this volume is a modest yet indicative attempt to explore this broad field and will hopefully contribute to the ongoing constructive dialogue between Orthodox theology, philosophy, and science in a novel way and serve as a foundation for future research and studies in this captivating domain.
