Frank Kell is a doctoral candidate at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Mannheim. In 2023, he conducted life history interviews with former industrial and mining workers for his dissertation, funded by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the Past, on works associations in northern Thuringia, which have been established on the sites of former VEBs since the 1990s. His research interest focuses on post-socialist spaces of memory in East Germany: How are experiences of upheaval, appropriations of the past and social concepts connected?
