"Intellektuelle Begegnungen zwischen Lutheranern und Armeniern. Akademische Studien, religiöse Polemik und politische Interessen (1630–1700)"
In this lecture, Dr Oleg Rusakovskiy and Dr Haik Hakobian will shed light on the diverse contacts between Lutheran and Armenian scholars and church actors in the 17th century. Using selected sources, the speakers will show how knowledge about the Armenian church and culture was communicated in Lutheran Europe, what role religious polemics played and how political interests influenced the perception and exchange between the two traditions. The lecture thus opens up new perspectives on the intertwining of religion, scholarship and politics in the early modern period.
Dr Oleg Rusakovskiy and Dr Haik Hakobian are researching relations between Lutheran Europe and the Armenian world in the early modern period as part of a tandem scholarship from the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
