Due to the extensive preparations for the construction measures at Friedenstein Palace, the Gotha Research Library is unfortunately unable to offer public tours of its display rooms until further notice. The Perthes Collection is also unfortunately unable to offer public tours at present.
We are constantly re-evaluating the situation in accordance with the applicable regulations of the State of Thuringia and regulations of the University of Erfurt and will inform you here of any new developments.
We ask for your understanding.
The Gotha Research Library is a historical component of the impressive architectural ensemble of the baroque Friedenstein Palace complex. It is housed in the rooms originally intended for the Ducal library, but now occupies almost the entire east wing of the palace with the elaborately decorated rooms formerly used as living quarters. These rooms, which are now used as stacks, are open to the public on guided tours.
These guided tours of the historical display rooms of the Gotha Research Library in Friedenstein Palace (Schlossplatz 1, 99867 Gotha) or of the Perthes Collection in the Perthes Forum (Justus-Perthes-Straße 1-9, 99867 Gotha) are only available by appointment. Thank you for your understanding.
The introductions to the use of the Research Library can be combined with a tour of the historical stacks.
