The exhibition "The Fascination of Travelling: Life & Survival in the Early Modern Period. Dangers and Adventures" will be on display in the foyer of the University Library from 13 October.
Compared to the present day, travelling in the early modern period was a far more difficult undertaking and never just a quick change of location, but a challenge. Travellers left their familiar surroundings and entered a world full of uncertainties. In this exhibition, visitors accompany two people on their journeys. At six stations - travel preparations, obtaining information, dangers en route, medical care, the postal system and early modern travel memories - visitors can immerse themselves in the travelling experience of past centuries.
The student exhibition emerged from the seminar "Travel and Infrastructures in the Early Modern Period" (WS 24/25, led by PD Dr Astrid Ackermann) at the University of Erfurt and can be visited free of charge until 30 October 2025.
