Ilka Saal is a finalist for TLA book award

For her book Collusions of Fact & Fiction: Performing Slavery in the Works of Suzan-Lori Parks & Kara Walker, Ilka Saal was nominated as a finalist for the 2021 Theatre Library Association's Book Award.

The Theatre Library Association just released the TLA Book Award winners for outstanding English language works of scholarship on live and recorded performance published in 2021.

We are proud to announce that Prof. Dr. Ilka Saal's book Collusions of Fact and Fiction: Performing Slavery in the Works of Suzan-Lori Parks and Kara Walker was chosen as one of the finalists in the running for the 2021 George Freedley Memorial Award for an exemplary work in the field of live theatre or performance. This year's winner in this category is Katrina M. Phillips for Staging Indigeneity: Salvage Tourism and the Performance of Native American History, published by University of North Carolina Press.

You can join the virtual TLA Book Awards Ceremony including remarks from this year’s winning authors and jurors, the presentation of the Louis Rachow Distinguished Service in Performing Arts Librarianship Award, and a slideshow of related special collections materials from the holdings of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

The event will take place via Zoom as a public program of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in New York City on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 6:30-7:30 PM EST.
