Oriental Manuscripts

The Oriental Manuscript Collection of the Gotha Research Library is the third largest collection of its kind in Germany with about 3,500 volumes. The collection, which originated in the early 19th century, includes historical and biographical treatises as well as manuscripts from the fields of theology, jurisprudence, medicine, grammar, lexicography, and poetry, and thus covers a broad spectrum of Islamic scholarship.
The first 500 manuscripts were digitized in 2015 and made accessible online. The metadata with the most important bibliographic information are recorded in the database “Orient-Digital”.
