The new government coalition will raise the German minimum wage. Dr. Arne Baumann, temporary leader of the Minimum Wage Commission, will join Prof. Kemmerling’s class on Jan. 24, 2021 to give a guest lecture on this topic.

Dr. Baumann leads the office of the Mindestlohnkommission. He holds a PhD from the European University Institute and he previously worked at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, as an advisor for labour market policy in the German Bundestag and as a labour market specialist for the European Training Foundation in Turin, an agency of the European Union. He will talk about raising the minimum wage in Germany in January 2022 and what this will imply for the labour market. We will also look back at the introduction of the minimum wage in Germany in 2015.
