Henning Gloystein and Amund Vik were joined by Jesus Renzullo Narvaez, a Brandt School alumnus and consultant with Eurasia on January 29, to share their take on political risks in 2025. According to their analysis, “The G-Zero wins” this year, implying a breakdown of global leadership. A key driver here is the “Rule of Don”, Trump’s isolationist policy approach, leading to a US-China spat. Additional risks lie in Trumponomics, Russia’s aggressive foreign policy and a Iran being “on the ropes” as well as artificial intelligence and ungoverned spaces with limited statehood. That said, red herrings include Europe breaking (which Eurasia does not see happening), and the global energy transition stalling (it will go on). Top Risks is an annual flagship report of the Eurasia Group, a leading global risk consultancy. The event segwayed into a lively discussion between the Eurasia experts and the students on what will lie ahead on world politics.
