Will AI one day make us redundant in the world of work?

Following the successful lecture series on the topic of "Artificial Intelligence", to which the City of Erfurt and Erfurt's universities invited students for the first time in the 2024 summer semester, the series will be continued in 2025. On eight dates – each Tuesday from 6.15 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. in the Erfurt Town Hall – speakers from the University of Erfurt and Erfurt University of Applied Sciences, the International University of Cooperative Education (iba), the International University of Applied Sciences and the Health and Medical University will shed light on various aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) from different scientific perspectives.

On 6 May, the lecture by Professor Achim Kemmerling from the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt will address the question of whether AI will one day make us redundant in the world of work. After all, new technologies always give rise to fears that human labour will lose its value. The most recent example of this is the debate about the consequences of artificial intelligence for the labour market. What do we know about whether there really are displacement effects, and what do such fears do to us? Which scenarios are the most plausible and what does this mean for political questions regarding the reform of education and social systems?

All interested parties are cordially invited to attend. Admission is free. Please note, however, that the number of seats is limited to 180.
