Introduced: New "SHIFT" research group

The new research group "Social & Human Infrastructures for Future Transitions" (SHIFT) will begin its work at the University of Erfurt at the start of 2026. It brings together experts from the fields of political science, sociology, psychology, communication, education and economic research and will initially be funded within the university for three years.

Professor Achim Kemmerling, Professor Johannes Bauer, Professor Cornelia Betsch, Professor Leyla Dogruel, Professor Andreas Goldthau, Professor Achim Kemmerling, Professor Guido Mehlkop, Assistant Professor Fabian Prochazka, Professor Thorsten Thiel and Professor Robert Böhm from the University of Vienna are involved in the project. Together, the scientists want to focus on one of the greatest global challenges: the so-called double transformation – climate change and the disruptions of new, digital technologies. "SHIFT" will combine two existing lines of research at the University of Erfurt into a joint, interdisciplinary research project. We present the new research group in our research blog "WortMelder" (in German only).
