Conference: "Umkämpfte Demokratie" – register now!

Democracy has evolved over time and is, at the same time, a subject of contention. Under the title "Umkämpfte Demokratie" (Hard-fought Democracy), a conference at the University of Erfurt on 20 and 21 November will explore how democratic systems came into being, what conflicts have shaped them – and how these conflicts continue to this day. The event is a collaboration between the Collaborative Research Centre "Structural Change of Property", the "Voluntariness" research group and the network "Historians for a Democratic Society".

Through dialogue between historical studies and related disciplines, the conference will examine areas of tension within democracies: inequality and property, the public sphere and the media, migration and the politics of memory, the environment, the body, gender and social participation.

The conference begins on Friday, 20 November, at 1.00 pm in the research building "Weltbeziehungen" on the University of Erfurt campus. Please register by emailing tagung.demokratie@uni-erfurt.de by 6 November at the latest.
