The professorship in North American History cordially invites you to a discussion with Steve Estes, San Francisco, CA (Sonoma State) and Michelle Mart, Reading, PA (Penn State) to mark the 2026 mid-term elections in the USA. The event will take place in a hybrid format, with the guests joining online.

Information from the organisers

On 3 November 2026, the mid-term elections will take place in the USA. Among other things, these elections will determine the composition of the House of Representatives for the coming years, and the senate will also be reshuffled. The elections take place halfway through the President’s term of office and therefore also provide an indication of how satisfied Americans are with Trump’s policies.

  • How does the electoral system in the US actually work?
  • What is the significance of this election?
  • Which places should we be keeping a close eye on this year?

We’d like to discuss these questions with you on 3 November.
