New to the Health Communication Team: Jakob Maurer

Jakob Maurer joins the Health Communication team as a research associate in the LUMEN research project on October 1, 2026.

Jakob Maurer, M.Sc.

Jakob Maurer studied psychology at the University of Mannheim and the University of Ulm. In his master’s thesis, he investigated the quantification of construct coverage using large language models. He previously worked as a student assistant at, among other institutions, the Centre for Preventive Medicine and Digital Health at Heidelberg University. His research interests include preventive medicine and digital health, machine learning in social research, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Jakob Maurer joins the chair of Health Communication as a doctoral candidate working on “LUMEN” collaborative project. The project investigates how people perceive mosquito-related risks and how they adapt their protective and exposure behaviours in everyday life. “LUMEN – Adapting to the Light: Mosquito Behaviour, Human Exposure and Vector Control in a Changing Climate" is coordinated by the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour at the University of Erfurt is also involved in the project.
