The Global South Studies Centre at the University of Erfurt invites you to a research day on the topic of "Performing Muharram". International guests will explain, present and discuss the meaning, aesthetics and performative practices of the month of mourning and remembrance, especially among Shiites worldwide. It is the first academic event of its kind in Germany. The event will also include a workshop with two panels in cooperation with the research group "Urbanity and Religion" and the junior research group "Glocal Religiosities: Entanglements, Identities, Belongings" at the University of Erfurt.

The Global South Studies Centre aims to bundle the potential and existing international partnerships and networks on issues relating to the Global South at the University of Erfurt on a cross-faculty basis and to further localise and network them nationally and internationally. It is unique in Germany and the only research centre of its kind in the new federal states. The medium-term research programme is entitled "Relations, (Dis)Connections, Ruptures: On the Futurability of a Globalised World".

The programme of the research day can be found on the website of the "Global South Studies Centre".
