New Interim Professor, Dr. Pau Palop-García brings expertise in migration and complexity in policymaking

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Pau Palop-García has been appointed Interim Professor at the Franz Haniel Chair for Public Policy. His academic work lies at the intersection of comparative public policy, migration governance, and the study of complexity in policymaking.

In his research, he examines how states design and implement policies under conditions of uncertainty. He focuses on migration governance, with particular attention to how policy frameworks shape the migrants’ access to rights and opportunities over time.

Dr. Palop-García taught and worked at the Brandt School as a post-doc fellow from 2020 to 2022, was as a researcher at the Institute for Latin American Studies of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies and is an affiliate with the German Center for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM Institute). He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Free University of Berlin.

He has published in leading international journals, including Regulation & Governance, Comparative Politics, Democratization, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Citizenship Studies, and Comparative Migration Studies.

We look forward to his Summer term courses on migration policy, European Union policy making, and Comparative Public Policy. Dr. Palop-García will also supervise MPP theses.

He is stepping in for Professor Andreas Goldthau, who is currently on a research sabbatical. This tandem arrangement is generously funded by Thyssen foundation.

We extend a warm welcome and look forward to working with him at the Brandt School.
