Project Group on digital transformation in the public sector visits byte: Bavarian Agency for Digital Transformation in Munich

The Digital Transformation project group, led by Dr. Hasnain Bokhari, Head of Digital Policy and Artificial Intelligence at the Brandt School, visited the Bavarian capital to engage with and learn from practicioners at the Bavarian Agency for Digtial Transformation.

Members of the Digital Transformation project group were warmly welcomed at byte in Munich by Antonia Zierer, Managing Director of byte, along with Ms. Lena Krampitz, Consultant to the Management Board at byte.

Ms. Zierer provided an insightful overview of byte's role as a central advisory and support unit for digital transformation in Bavaria. Since its establishment in 2021, byte has served as a digitalization partner for the Bavarian State Government, assisting in the development and implementation of digital products and services for state administration.

The discussion highlighted various projects that byte has undertaken, including FAZID, an end-to-end digital funding management platform designed to streamline funding processes. Another project, Digital Check,focuses on creating laws and regulations that are ready for the digital age, ensuring they meet future requirements.

Special emphasis was placed on the role of artificial intelligence in public administration, particularly through the AI Roadshow conducted by byte. This roadshow aimed to assess the needs for AI integration in public services and included the establishment of an AI lab and exploration workshops.

The Digital Transformation project group, under the leadership of Dr. Hasnain Bokhari, Head of Digital Policy and Artificial Intelligence at the Brandt School, is currently developing policy recommendations for the Digital Agentur GmbH Thüringen. These recommendations aim to create a training concept that equips administrative employees in Thuringia with essential digital competencies. The group's work is informed by current research and best practices from other German federal states and European countries, with a specific focus on the skills required for the effective use of AI tools in administrative processes.
