With the belt and Road initiative, China invests heavily in countries in the global south. Johannes Vogel discusses how we can best understand this initiative through three concepts: geopolitics, geoeconomics and development by zooming in on the case of Cambodia.

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, Johannes Vogel, currently a Research Associate at Humboldt University of Berlin, will join us for our Rooftop Terrace Talk to dive deeper into this topic. During this one-hour session, we will discuss the strategic implications of the Belt and Road Initiative, its impact on local development, and what it means for global economic and political dynamics.

The event will take place on June 25, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 7:00 p.m. at the University of Erfurt, in the Research Building on the Rooftop Terrace (C19.03.52).

Join us for an interesting discussion and some drinks and snacks! We look forward to welcoming many interested participants!
