University of Erfurt awards doctoral scholarships, initialisation grants and Annemarie Schimmel scholarships

The University of Erfurt is once again awarding scholarships for 2023 - up to seven from funds of the Thuringian state graduate funding for doctorate projects in the structured Erfurt doctorate and post-doctorate programme (EPPP) of the certified graduate centres or the Max-Weber-Kolleg and two initialisation scholarships as well as two Annemarie Schimmel scholarships for post-doctorates.

The financial support of 1,400 euros per month for the doctoral scholarships is for three years. The funding can be extended for a further year. In addition, a family allowance of 300 euros is granted for one child and 150 euros for each additional child. The funding will start on 1 January 2023.

The initialisation scholarships as a measure to promote gender equality within the framework of the "Programme for Female Professors of the Federal Government and the Länder" as well as the "Thuringian Programme for the Promotion of Young Women Scientists and Artists" will be awarded to female postdoctoral researchers by 1 April 2023 at the latest. The funding is aimed at excellent young female researchers who want to use the scholarship to draft a proposal for third-party funding to carry out an independently planned research project. The focus is on project funding for their own research activities in order to first gain experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and project planning and, if successful, in project management. The call for proposals is open to all topics. However, it is expected that the research project will be linked to the University of Erfurt and that active networking with local academics will take place. The scholarships run for up to twelve months. Depending on the programme, the funding comprises a monthly scholarship of 1,600 or 2,000 euros as well as a family allowance and an annual flat-rate research allowance. In addition, the scholarship includes targeted support in the preparation of the third-party funding proposal, workshop offers within the framework of the Academic Career and Qualification Programme as well as individual proposal coaching for the planned third-party funding project. Subject to capacity, a workplace can be provided at the University of Erfurt.

As a measure to promote equality – also within the framework of the "Female Professors Programme of the Federal Government and the States" – the University of Erfurt will award two Annemarie Schimmel scholarships to female post-doctoral researchers from 1 January 2023. These are aimed at excellent female academics who are specifically preparing for an academic career as a professor or who already fulfil the formal requirements for a professorship. The scholarship is intended for the performance of research work as preliminary work for a major project (e.g. habilitation) or a more extensive research project (e.g. the planning of a collaborative project). The call for proposals is open to all topics. However, it is expected that the research projects will be carried out in cooperation with academics from the University of Erfurt. The duration of the scholarships is up to 24 months. The funding includes a monthly scholarship of 1,600 euros and, if applicable, a family allowance. In addition, there is an annual flat-rate research allowance. Furthermore, the scholarship includes career coaching and workshop offers within the framework of the Academic Career and Qualification Programme as well as individual proposal coaching for the planned third-party funding project. Subject to capacity, a workplace can be provided at the University of Erfurt.

The closing date for applications is 30 September. Detailed information on the call for applications, the selection criteria and the application documents to be submitted can be found on our website at: www.uni-erfurt.de/en/research/news/announcements.
