New junior research group is conducting research to improve diagnosis and healthcare for endometriosis

The END-DELAY research project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Health, is investigating why the diagnosis of endometriosis is often delayed by years.

Why is endometriosis often not diagnosed until years later? This is the question being explored by a new junior research group led by Dr. Sarah Eitze, an employee at the professorship for health communication and a member of the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour. The research project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Health and entitled ‘Diagnostic delays in endometriosis: socio-psychological determinants of symptom normalisation (END-DELAY)’ examines the social and psychological factors that may contribute to symptoms being normalised and diagnoses being delayed. The aim is to gain a better understanding of where and why delays occur – and, based on this, to develop approaches for earlier diagnosis and better care for those affected.

The five-year project will commence on 1 January 2027.
