“Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.” – Zora Neale Hurston (1891-1960), American folklorist, anthropologist, and author
The team under the professorship of Religious Studies with a focus on religious media practices at the University of Erfurt examines the interplay between religion and media, employing systematic and interdisciplinary approaches. Our current focus is processes of convergence between religious and media practices in Islam. Our research is generously funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR). We not only work together as a team in Erfurt, but also in collaboration with colleagues at other universities, e.g. within the research group Islam and Digitality: Media, Materiality, Hermeneutics.
Research and networking with colleagues in Germany and around the world, as well as the ongoing support of academics at all stages of qualification, are an important and fulfilling part of our work.
On the following pages, we are therefore happy to provide you with detailed information about our current and successfully completed research projects.
Be curious!
