Open meeting format with music, theatre, political speeches and a market of initiatives.

“Schnack im Park” is part of the “Difference – Transformation – Cohesion” project, a collaboration between the City of Erfurt and the University of Erfurt. The event is organised by Blinde Flecken association in collaboration with the Erfurt sound collective “Solidarische Bunt Amseln”. The event aims to bring people together in conversation and create space for self-advocacy, a culture of remembrance and social interaction, with the aim of reaching out to members of Erfurt’s urban community who would not otherwise come into contact with political issues. Planned activities include:

  • speeches by Blinde Flecken, La Fit, Frauen für den Nahen Osten, Melting Pot Erfurt and the University of Erfurt, which will commemorate the 1975 pogrom against Algerians;
  • the play “Die Falle” by the Tunisian author and actor Riadh Ben Ammar (Theater für Bewegungsfreiheit), which addresses the situation at the EU’s external border;
  • live music by Önder and the Ukrainian choir “De Libertate”;
  • DJ sets by Andrés (house) and Lilac (techno); and
  • contributions from other initiatives and self-advocacy groups.
Background

With this event, the City of Erfurt and the University of Erfurt are participating in the reappraisal of violence in the GDR and the transformation period. The focus is on the question of how social processes, conflict structures and collective forms of remembrance between municipal institutions, civil society actors and affected groups can be effectively analysed and reflected upon. The aim is to strengthen social cohesion through dialogue-oriented and research-based event formats and to provide new impetus for a solidary and inclusive coexistence in the city. The “Difference – Transformation – Cohesion” project is a non-partisan endeavour that aims to consolidate democratic structures and strengthen civic engagement. It is exemplary of the close cooperation between municipal institutions, research institutions and civil society organisations and thus sets an example for a resilient democracy.
