Lecture: ‘Die Deutsche Wirtschaft in der Zeitenwende: Hat die Bundesregierung die richtigen Antworten?’

US trade policy, the rise of China and the war between Russia and Ukraine have fundamentally altered the global economic order. How should Germany respond to this changed global economic order? Professor Sebastian Dullien, Director of the Institut für Makroökonomie und Konjunkturforschung (IMK) of the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung, will discuss the economic policy challenges of this new era and their significance for social cohesion and economic sustainability on 7 October in the Erfurt Town Hall.

The global economic order is undergoing change: geopolitical tensions, shifting trade relations and new economic policy priorities are presenting Germany and Europe with fundamental challenges. Against this backdrop, the question arises as to how the German economy should respond to these changing conditions and whether the policy responses to date are adequate to meet the current challenges.

The lecture will therefore focus on the question of what economic policy strategies Germany and Europe need to secure their long-term economic viability. At the same time, it will address the impact of economic change on social cohesion and how economic stability and social interests can be reconciled.

DeGlobE – Deglobalisation and Global Decoupling

DeGlobE is an interdisciplinary research programme and doctoral programme. It investigates how the relationships between the market, the state and the global economy are changing, and what new ‘post-globalisation logics’ are emerging as a result.

The programme focuses on four key areas:

  • Clean transition and green technologies

  • Value creation and security apparatuses

  • Financial and infrastructure policy

  • Supply chains, human rights and sustainable development

DeGlobE examines how deglobalisation, decoupling and global decoupling are transforming economic and political structures – and what consequences this has for social justice, the socio-ecological transition and human rights.
