Fulbright Transatlantic Diplomacy Program

The Fulbright Transatlantic Diplomacy Program (TAD) is a scholarship opportunity by Fulbright Germany for German MPP students that combines a coordinated U.S. study program with leadership development, professional training, and long-term network building. It is designed so they can continue the Master of Public Policy seamlessly—within the regular period of study—while gaining international experience and joining the global Fulbright community.

At a glance

  • Who can apply: German citizens who have already been admitted to the MPP.
  • When to apply (timeline): You apply before you start the MPP—in the summer prior to the programme start—so you can benefit from the scholarship’s accompanying programme and networking from the onset.
  • Duration in the U.S.: 4–9 months for one or two terms, including the option to spend a maximum of two months on an internship.
  • Funding by Fulbright Germany:
    • No U.S. tuition fees for TAD participants.
    • Funding for living costs and, where applicable, enrollment-related fees: ,800 (4 months) to ,000 (9 months).
    • J‑1 visa issued free of charge.
    • Participation in Fulbright’s health coverage (ASPE; acceptance depends on the host university).
  • Beyond the study abroad semester: It may be possible to complete the MPP mandatory internship in the U.S. afterwards, combining study and practical experience.
  • Network & training: Access to the worldwide Fulbright Network plus an accompanying programme with trainings and contacts to transatlantic organizations and stakeholders

How to apply

  • Application deadline: 31 August 2026 for students who start their MPP in October 2026 and would go abroad in the fall 2027.
  • Notification: Fulbright Germany will inform selected candidates around mid-December 2026.
