The Amazon of Rights Project is co-organising the second edition of The Law and the Amazon Conference, which will take place in Belém, Brazil, host city of COP30, from 2 to 5 December 2025.
We are pleased to announce the Call for Applications, together with the Forum Latin America, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, in collaboration with the Federal University of Pará, the Escola Superior da Advocacia-Geral da União (ESAGU), the Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará (CESUPA), Tilburg University, and Maastricht University.
This year's edition will focus on how local, Indigenous, and alternative narratives of climate governance challenge and enrich global frameworks, such as those discussed within COP 30. By placing the Amazon at the center of global legal and environmental debates, the conference seeks to foreground its ecological, legal, and geopolitical relevance and its vital role in shaping just and sustainable futures.
We again invite researchers, scholars, artists, and civil society representatives to apply and contribute to this event. Full details about the call, including the application process and timeline, are available here.
