Language Acquisition and Language Teaching
The Chair of English Didactics with a focus on language teaching and learning research deals with all aspects of the learning and teaching of the English language as well as English-speaking cultures and literatures in its research and teaching.
Our courses are aimed at students of elementary school, secondary school, vocational school, special education school, and the dual study programme for secondary schools.
In the English didactics program, prospective teachers acquire a sound theoretical, practical, and empirical foundation in English language teaching. A particular focus is placed on research-based learning: students develop their own questions, systematically analyze language learning processes, and gain insights into science-oriented teaching development. At the same time, we are particularly committed to the professionalization of prospective teachers by systematically combining subject-specific, didactic, pedagogical, and digital skills.
The school internship in English plays a central role in this. It offers students the opportunity to test their subject-specific didactic knowledge in real teaching situations, carry out specific observation tasks, and reflectively evaluate their experiences using scientific categories. In this way, it contributes significantly to continuous professionalization throughout the course of study.
In addition, the program provides insights into the historical development of English language teaching, its objectives, and its educational policy framework.
