What are we doing?
The political debates surrounding "derisking", secondary sanctions, economic resilience and trade wars are putting geoeconomics prominently on the political and scientific agenda. The research group uses the term security capitalism to indicate the increasing overlap between security and economics, thus linking the fields of security (Professor Hoffmann), political economy (Professor Kessler), law (Professor Riegner) and public policy (Professor Goldthau). The joint research interest focusses on the question of how security policy relates to capitalist value creation. Among other things, the aim is to better understand the close interaction between private and state actors in areas such as security apparatuses, the energy industry, global supply chains and financial markets, and to analyse their political motivations and effects.
From 7 to 8 October, the research forum will take place under the title
"Perspectives on global order - economy, power and security in times of (de)globalisation and geoeconomics".
The research forum is aimed at doctoral students and postdocs working on issues of (de)globalisation and geoeconomics. It offers a platform for professional exchange by combining project presentations with targeted impulses and well-founded comments from experienced experts.
An opening panel of the research group Security Capitalism research group will frame the event, set the focus of the content and open the discussion.
