We invite you to a talk by Prof. Dr. Cornelia Betsch on the Master's program "Health Communication" followed by an exchange with students (hybrid).
Profile of the study program
Health promotion and disease prevention are among the greatest challenges facing modern societies. In view of social, demographic and health policy developments, the spread of unhealthy lifestyles and the increasing threat of epidemics, there is a growing need to create conditions that promote good health.
Communication about health and illness is an important part of this framework conditions. On the one hand, it plays a role in healthcare, and can be used to communicate risks and options for action. This can contribute to health promotion and disease prevention. However, suboptimal communication about health can also lead to distorted risk perception and reinforce unhealthy lifestyles.
As an interdisciplinary field of research, health communication deals precisely with this area of tension, and examines the social and psychological conditions, meanings and consequences of intentional and unintentional health-related and health-relevant communication, whether intrapersonal, interpersonal, mediated or public. This interdisciplinary Master's program focuses on the theory and practice of evidence-based health communication.
