thoska for everyone

Anyone who registers as a new user of the Erfurt University Library and the Gotha Research Library from September 2026 onwards and does not hold a valid student identity card (thoska) as a member of the University of Erfurt or another higher education institution in Thuringia will, in future, be issued with a thoska library card. 

As well as the usual functions for borrowing, renewing, reserving and managing your library account, this new library card also features an integrated electronic wallet for cashless payments. The student identity card (thoska) can be used as a copying card for photocopying and printing, as well as in the cafeteria (at the guest rate). It can also be used to pay library fees. The student identity card (thoska)’s e-wallet can be topped up at designated machines, e.g. in the library, using a debit or credit card.

The student identity card costs a one-off fee of 10 euros. 

Any existing library card (not a thoska) remains valid until the end of its respective period of validity. The expiry date can be viewed in your library account, and an automatic reminder email will be sent in good time. If you still need your library card, you must exchange it for a student identity card (thoska) in order to access all its features.
