Electronic newspapers

Members of the University of Erfurt (employees and students) have access to many newspapers and newspaper archives online in full text on campus.

An overview of the newspapers and newspaper archives accessible at the Erfurt University Library can be found in the Database Information System (DBIS).

Of particular note are:

  • F.A.Z. library portal and Süddeutsche Zeitung full text archives of the two national daily newspapers. Access from off-campus is only possible to the Süddeutsche Zeitung portal via VPN.
  • Pressreader The platform offers access to the current issues of the last 60 or 90 days of over 7,000 international, national and regional daily newspapers as well as magazines Access from off-campus is possible (Shibboleth and VPN).
  • Nexis Uni The database contains news content in addition to company, financial and personal information: Articles from several thousand journals, magazines and newspapers are included in full text on a daily basis and retrospectively, e.g. Der Spiegel, Die Welt, Die Zeit, The Times (London), The Guardian, The Independent, The New York Times, El Pais and Le Figaro. Off-campus access is available via VPN.

Historical newspapers in particular can often be read free of charge over the Internet. They are retrospectively digitized and offered in archive portals, where full-text searches are not infrequently possible. These include, for example:

Within the framework of DFG-funded national licenses, numerous newspaper archives with their full texts and varying lengths of time are freely available throughout Germany, for example America's Historical Newspapers, 19th Century British Newspapers or The Times Digital Archive.
