Search and find literature: guidelines for research

Always start your search for literature in the online catalogue or in the library's Discovery search portal. The online catalogue lists the library's holdings of books, journals, electronic media and the majority of old prints (no articles).
Manuscripts, autographs, historical maps as well as a number of other printed works can be found in special catalogues. In addition, many further search portals can be found in the overview of regional and national catalogues.

You can also use the Electronic Journals Library EZB to search for free or licensed electronic journals of the library.

For more in-depth scientific work, the use of articles from books and journals is essential. The library's Database Information System (DBIS) provides general and subject databases to search for these forms of publication.

In some databases the link service SFX is activated, a system for displaying the availability of scientific publications.
In databases where SFX is not activated, you must manually check whether the desired literature is available in your own library.

Literature not available in your own library or in other libraries in Erfurt can be ordered via inter-library loan from another library; please use the Common Union Catalogue (GVK).

Scientific work also includes the systematic administration of the literature used with literature administration programs, e.g. to present it effectively in a bibliography.

The stock of the library is subject indexed with the Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK); the media are arranged according to this system in the freely accessible area of the library. For finding relevant literature searching by classification groups and subjects is also recommended.

If you have any questions or need help with literature searches, please use the library's research service.
