Bibliography management

Why use a reference management system?

  • The systematic collection and management of bibliographic details of books, articles and other publications.
  • Use of a standard citation style and compilation of a bibliography.
  • Supports the academic writing process, from researching relevant information and organising the literature to writing the actual paper.
  • By citing sources correctly, you can effortlessly contribute to upholding good academic practice.

Bibliography management programmes

The University of Erfurt has licensed the paid programmes Citavi and EndNote. Zotero is available as free, operating-system-independent software. The choice depends on the size of the literature collection and, to some extent, on the operating system used. All programmes support the import of bibliographic data via a browser plug-in and can be integrated into common word-processing programmes.
