Search and find literature: guidelines for research

Always start your search for literature in the online catalogue or in the library's Discovery search portal. The online catalogue lists all books, journals, electronic media and most of the early printed books (no articles).
Manuscripts, autographs, historical maps as well as a number of other printed works can be found in special catalogues or in regional and national catalogues.

For finding open-access as well as licensed electronic journals also use the Electronic Journals Library EZB.

For more in-depth scientific work finding articles from books and journals is essential. Useful databases are listed in the Database Information System (DBIS) .

In some databases the linking service SFX is activated, a context-sensitive service showing the availability of scientific publications.
Documents found in databases without SFX have to be checked in a second step on the online-catalogue.

Literature not available in your own library or in other libraries in Erfurt can be ordered via inter-library loan. For inter-library loan please use the Common Union Catalogue (GVK).

Reference management programmes help to work with and present your research effectively.

The holdings of Erfurt University are classified according to subjects by the Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK). Most books and other media are on open access in the reading room. For finding relevant literature searching by classification groups and subjects is also recommended.

Please use the library's research service for any requests and assistance needed.
