Information from the organisers
The topic of "dealing with strangers" plays an even greater role in the educational context today than in the past in view of social developments. Foreigners and foreignness are present in modern societies in a new quality due to migration, mobility and, not least, the digital world. Thinking about interpersonal relationships, which open up the possibility of a respectful, critical and recognising approach to strangers and foreignness, appears to be of particular importance. In everyday school life as a whole and in specific lessons, dealing with strangers and foreignness represents a challenge that is close to life and, above all, ethically significant. On the one hand, we as teachers are confronted with foreignness in many different ways. This applies above all to communication with children of different origins and backgrounds. On the other hand, dealing with foreignness beyond the classroom (for example in discussions with parents) plays a role that should not be underestimated.
Using selected impulse texts from the material booklet "Ich, Du und Andere. On dealing with the stranger", we want to discuss our own experiences and the possibilities of dealing with "the stranger". The booklet will be made available to participants free of charge.
