Research Data Management

The University of Erfurt is a partner of the  Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management, which provides information and materials on the subject of "Research data management in Thuringia" on its website. Here on site we advise all members of the University of Erfurt as well as members of the Thuringian universities of applied sciences from the areas of humanities, economics and pedagogy on all aspects of research data management that emerge during research.
The Research Data Management Service located at the library works closely with the Research and Graduate Service and the URMZ. We cooperate with the data protection officer and establish the contact for the publication services of the Electronic Text Center.

• DFG Funding initiative to secure endangered data repositories and promote data resilience 2025 to 2027 Funding will be made available for the period from 2025 to presumably 2027 to promote the resilience of data infrastructures and to secure data sets and research results from repositories abroad that are particularly important for German research and which are at risk of no longer being available for research purposes, either now or in the future, and to make them available to the scientific community. To this end, the initiative supports a broad range of measures demonstrably contributing to the preservation of scientific data and research results. This may include the acquisition of storage capacity, the provision of personnel resources for the indexing, curation or disciplinary aggregation of data, legal assessment processes, and the integration of secured data sets into cross-regional or European structures. Funding may also be provided for the development of frameworks and technologies that enable the inclusion of relevant repositories or infrastructures in cross-regional or European networks or cloud environments. Proposals for funding in 2025 must be submitted by 10 November 2025 at the latest. Proposals for funding in the following years can be submitted at any time. • A quick start guide for RADAR4Memory, the free publication service and repository for research data in the field of historical humanities, is now available on Zenodo. It provides a clear summary of everything you need to know about using RADAR4Memory.

• Text+, the NFDI consortium for text- and language-based research data, offers an open virtual consultation hour in addition to its regular advisory services. During the “Research Rendezvous,” held every two weeks, you can discuss questions, concerns, and ideas related to research data management, language and text data, collections, editions, lexical resources, and the associated software tools directly with Text+ staff at set times (Tuesdays 9–10 a.m. or Thursdays 10–11 a.m.). For more extensive questions, individual (follow-up) appointments can be arranged. Once a month, Text+—in collaboration with NFDI4Culture, NFDI4Memory, and NFDI4Objects—offers a joint FDM consultation session as part of Humanities@NFDI. No prior registration is required. The virtual room is open for the entire hour.

• The Frag4Memory consultation hours will take a summer break in August, but starting September 14, monthly consultation sessions will resume as usual. Register via the NFDI4Memory website.
• DFG Specification of Requirements Relating to the Handling of Research Data in Funding Proposals. It will now be mandatory for proposals to include details (cf. Ckecklist)
• The DFG Priority Programme 1859 "Experience and Expectation. Historical Foundations of Economic Behavior", the Gesellschaft für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte and the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin have founded the open access repository and research data hub "Emporion" together. .It is intended to promote free, standard-compliant publication – in particular based on the FAIR principles – of socio-historical research data (e.g. time series, statistical and panel data, text mining analyses) and data papers and is also available for contributions from corporate, environmental and technical history.  [further Information]
• NFDI4Objects Travel Grants: Are you a student, doctoral candidate, or early-career researcher with limited financial resources, but would still like to participate in one of NFDI4Objects in-person workshops? 
  NFDI4Objects is here to help: Under certain conditions, you can apply to the consortium for reimbursement of your travel expenses.
  To be eligible for travel expense reimbursement, the following conditions must be met:
  • You are enrolled at a German college or university in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program (undergraduate students, doctoral candidates).
  • or: You completed your doctorate less than three years ago and are working in a fixed-term postdoctoral position (early-career researcher).

  • Complete the application for travel expense reimbursement (Application in German) in full and submit it to NFDI4Objects, along with the required original supporting documents, by the deadline (cf. application form). Before booking train tickets and accommodations, please be sure to review the instructions regarding travel expense reimbursement on page 3 of the application.

• Since April, the Historical Location Data Working Group has been offering the online advisory service “Wer weiß schon wo" (engl. Who Knows Where) on the topic of historical place data, which is aimed at both beginners and experts. Those interested can contact kontakt@historische-ortsdaten.de directly via email with their inquiry.

• The historical Vornamentool [hivoto]can be used, among other things, for the identification, data enrichment, and standardization of first names by assigning a probable gender and a standardized spelling to historical spellings.
