Voicing the Self: Iranian Women’s Podcasts as Sites of Mediatized Subjectivity
In an era dominated by hyper-visual digital platforms like Instagram and YouTube, the growing popularity of podcasting presents a compelling shift toward intimacy, subjectivity, and informal knowledge production. This research examines Persian-language podcasts created by women in Iran and the diaspora as emerging spaces for articulating female subjectivity and contesting hegemonic narratives.
The project analyzes how women narrate, interpret, and position themselves through audio storytelling. Drawing on postcolonial critique and resonance theory, it approaches podcasting not merely as media content but as a relational and affective practice—one that enables marginalized women’s voices to negotiate gendered identities and create alternative epistemologies.
