Through the Belt and Road Initiative, China is investing heavily in countries in the Global South. Johannes Vogel discusses how we can best understand this initiative through three concepts – geopolitics, geoeconomics and development – by focusing on the case of Cambodia.

On Thursday 25 June 2026, Johannes Vogel, currently a Research Associate at Humboldt University of Berlin, will join us for our Rooftop Terrace Talk to explore this topic in greater depth. During this one-hour session, we will discuss the strategic implications of the Belt and Road Initiative, its impact on local development, and what it means for global economic and political dynamics.

The event will take place on 25 June 2026, from 5.30 pm to approximately 7.00 pm at the University of Erfurt, on the rooftop terrace of the Research Building (C19.03.52).

Join us for an interesting discussion, along with some drinks and snacks! We look forward to welcoming lots of interested participants!
