University meets city

The University of Erfurt offers a variety of comprehensive, regular events for the interested public.

Lecture series

The University of Erfurt and the University of Applied Sciences regularly invite students, employees and other interested parties to a joint lecture series. The focus is on socially relevant topics that are examined from different disciplines. In this way, the universities bring science into the city - to the citizens.

Erfurt Science Slam

Erfurt Science Slam: "Science on stage!"

[Translate to English:] Erfurter Science Slam

In the meantime, it has become a permanent fixture in Erfurt's calendar of events: in November, at the invitation of the University of Erfurt, "Science on Stage"!

What is it all about? The slammers each have ten minutes to present their research projects in an entertaining way that is understandable to everyone. All aids are permitted. The aim: to inspire the audience and conquer the Erfurt Science Slam trophy!

When and where?
The next Science Slam will take place on 18 October 2023 in the Centre for Communication and Information (KIZ) on campus.

Long Night of Sciences

Experience science up close: The Long Night of Sciences

[Translate to English:] Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften Erfurt

It takes place every two years - the "smartest night of the year" or in other words: the "Long Night of Sciences" in Erfurt. Every year at the beginning of November, the city of Erfurt, together with the Erfurt universities, the HELIOS Clinic and numerous other companies and institutions, invites all Erfurt residents and guests to experience science in the truest sense of the word.

A whole evening of lectures, exhibitions, presentations and experiments. Diversity is guaranteed, because during the "Long Night of Sciences", scientists and experts from regional companies open the doors to their laboratories, cleanrooms, operating theatres, archives, lecture halls and production facilities. Visitors will have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes, learn first-hand details of current research work and ask lots of questions. And of course, participation is also allowed.

When and where?
The next "Long Night of Sciences" will take place on 18 November 2024, starting at 6 pm.

Children's University Erfurt

[Translate to English:] Kinder-Uni Schlaufuchs

Once a year Erfurt's children grow up. That's when the Erfurt children's university takes place, always in autumn, where the little foxes set up their ears like the grown-ups in real lecture halls and bombard the children's conquerors of hearts, who are called professors here, with questions. Of course, there is also a real student ID card: as a visible sign of participation, the children can enter their name here and receive a stamp for each lecture attended. When the six stamp fields are full, a children's university certificate can be hung on the wall. And so every year new exciting topics await the mini students. For example, why a rabbit does not need glasses. Or who this Mr Shakespeare actually was. Or why not every Cinderella can become a princess. No matter if 7 or 14 years - the events are made for different age groups, participation is free of charge.

Children's University "All about the book"

Children's university "All about books": Meeting place for little bookworms

Plakatmotiv der Kinderuni "Rund um das Buch"

Every year in March the campus of the University of Erfurt becomes a meeting place for little bookworms. This is when the subject area of Primary School Education and Childhood Research organises the Children's University "All about books". The event is embedded in the Erfurt Children's Book Days and aims to make children curious about literature. For a week, children can sit like grown-ups in the lecture hall every day for a week and listen to a lecture that deals with the most diverse genres such as fairy tales, mythology, children's literature classics and children's literature in film and theatre. This is followed by various seminars and workshops on the respective topics, in which the children can deepen their knowledge.
