"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus" (Hebr 10:19).
The Erfurt Professorship of Exegesis and Theology of the New Testament deeply mourns the death of Claus-Peter März, who held the professorship until 2012.
In the Erfurt tradition, Claus-Peter März researched the Gospel of Luke. In addition, he made a name for himself with his work on the Letter to the Hebrews, but also on the synoptic tradition, especially on the Sayings-source Q and the Passion-narrative.
Claus-Peter März has made a lasting contribution to New Testament exegesis as a scholar and academic teacher.
He is known to many through the hymn of praise "Wenn das Brot, das wir teilen, als Rose blüht" (GL 470), which combines biblical-new testamental motifs with the memory of St. Elisabeth, patroness saint of Thuringia.
The Professorship of Exegesis and Theology of the New Testament will honour the memory of our esteemed colleague. We assure the family, the students and all companions and friends of the deceased of our sincere sympathy.
Vivat in Christo!
