How can we explain why modern society is marked by social exhaustion and why people are increasingly losing their connection to the world around them? In two essays, Hartmut Rosa explores these questions and outlines the challenges facing a new Critical Theory. He summarises his approach and develops it further with a view to future societal challenges.

In the afterword, editor Michael Kühnlein brings the two essays together and situates them within Rosa’s broader body of thought.
