Good research practice
The ombudsperson for good research practice supports compliance with and the promotion of good research practice at the University of Erfurt. Good research practice forms the basis of academic work at the University of Erfurt. It stands for academic integrity, diligence and transparency in the research process. This includes, amongst other things, adherence to professional standards, the careful documentation of methods and results to ensure their reproducibility, the responsible handling of research data, and the recognition of others’ work through correct citation and publication practices. The University of Erfurt follows the guidelines of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in this regard.

Role and responsibilities of the ombudsperson
The ombudsperson for Ggood research practice acts as a neutral point of contact for members and staff of the University of Erfurt, as well as former members and staff, on all matters relating to good scientific practice and in cases of suspected scientific misconduct. At the same time, they promote good reasearch practice at the University of Erfurt.
They investigate allegations of research misconduct, advises those who report a suspected specific incident, as well as those facing such allegations, and requests the initiation of a formal investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Allegations of Research Misconduct (Investigation Commission). The ombudsperson acts independently in the performance of their duties. Their work is carried out in strict confidence.
The current ombudsperson and their deputy
The incumbent ombudsperson and their deputy are elected by the Senate of the University of Erfurt from amongst the professors. The term of office is three years, with the possibility of a single re-election. The current term of office runs from 16 November 2025 to 15 November 2028.
The Commission for the Investigation of Scientific Misconduct (Investigation Commission)
The Investigative Commission, appointed by the Senate, investigates allegations of research misconduct as part of a formal investigation procedure. This procedure is initiated by the ombudsperson where there is reasonable suspicion of research misconduct. The term of office for the members, who are also elected by the Senate, is three years (16 November 2025 to 15 November 2028).
