Globalisation is on the retreat. Instead of integration through trade, states are now seeking to strengthen their own economic security, establish dominance in future sectors and thus pursue geopolitical interests. Increasing state intervention strategies - such as the Inflation Reduction Act (USA), the Clean Industrial Deal (EU) or Made in China 2025 (PR China) - combine traditional industrial policy with subsidies and sanctions. What does the "era of geoeconomics" mean for Europe and how can it survive in the new, non-cooperative competition?
