Coping with large amounts of material in a limited amount of time is a dilemma that many lecturers face. A purely lecture-based didactic approach often appears to be the only, albeit less satisfactory, way out.

In this workshop, alternatives for dealing with large amounts of material in a meaningful way will be developed, in which the motivation and willingness to learn of the students are given special consideration. The best way to do this is to reduce the amount of material sensibly while at the same time using activating teaching and learning methods.

During the workshop, the participants have their own event concept in view at all times, with the aim of better tailoring content to the target group and the time available without losing focus on the essentials.

The participants...

  • recognise the causes and dangers of the completeness trap.
  • apply tools and technologies to reduce material.
  • ensure completeness despite a reduced amount of material.
  • transfer meaningful didactic planning to their own everyday university life.
  • are familiar with methods based on the principle of reduction and can implement these in courses.
